Sense of Mission/Purpose

What is the essence of your pro-activity? Is it in your relationship with your self and others? Does it include  your faith? Having a vision of what you consider that essence of pro-activity to be will give you that authenticity, integrity, and wellness, to move you from “good” to “best” in life.

Some years ago I wrote a mission statement for my personal life. In it I wrote down things that I valued most in my life. It was like a written constitution that I intended to use for setting short and long term goals. However, until I read this quote from Stephen R Covey, I had not put into practice that intention.

“Once you have a sense of mission, you have the essence of your own proactivity. You have the vision and the values that direct your life. You have the basic direction from which you set your long-and short term goals. You have the power of a written constitution based on correct principles, against which every decision concerning the most effective use of your time, your talents, and your energies can be effectively measured.”

In my mission statement, I placed those things I valued most,  My health, my faith, my family and my home. How had I been using my time, my talent and my energies? I set goals daily, weekly, monthly and yearly. I diligently wrote them on paper and many times they never again saw the light of day. Does that happen in your life? Are you a writer of your goals or just a thinker? Goals not written down are just wishes.  Setting goals becomes the foundation on which you build walls of integrity. These walls begin the change you want for your life.  You can tie yourself to you limitless potential and not your limited past. However, goal setting alone does not give strength to your walls.Goals need to be attained, they need to be reached. I have found that daily review of goals at the very least once a month helps to achieve goals. Sometimes goals change course. All of this involves self-awareness and self-care which we as women find challenging. If you would like to learn more about how to write your own mission/purpose statement or how you can start goal setting to get you started on you own best practices, go to schedule an appointment on the home page of this website and send me a message.

Goal Setting  from a place of purpose/mission is the effective use of my time, my talent and my energies.

Goal Setting is a way of taking the “good” and making it  “best.”
